October 18th 2022: It looks like the Northgate Market supermarket at the corner of Harbor and Wilson in Costa Mesa may finally open and even before year end. Originally the store opening was pointing towards 2023 but over recent days Northgate has been moving items in to the store such as shopping carts.
No official announcement has been made by Northgate although employees in other stores have been asked if anyone wants to transfer to the Costa Mesa location. The recent moving of items in to the store seems to sync with the fact some vendors of perishable items were talking about a October or November opening.
The opening would seem to depend on how much construction still needs to be completed as well as the staffing and training the employees before finally adding the perishable items. Before everything was stopped the store got many trucks of non perishable items if that was completed an opening might not be too far away.

Having this store closed has been bad for the nearby community since the Albertson’s supermarket closed once its lease was up. Yes there is a Vons on Adams and Harbor or on 17th Street but not everyone has access to cars to travel to a full service supermarket.
There was some talk and negative comments about the supermarket being a Hispanic supermarket; But in the end i don’t think it matters even if you are not in to Hispanic food it will still be a convenient place to get your bread, eggs, vegetables and other staples. Northgate has been a successful independent supermarket for a long time they will adjust there offerings as needed to what sells in Costa Mesa.
So happy to hear that Northgate will be opening soon. It really hurt when Albertsons closed cuz I love that store. Living near Northgate will be a convenience for a lot of us older people if you don’t want to travel for to get good groceries at good prices. I thank you so much for giving us this information
