October 25th 2023: This Friday is the big Marigold sale put on by the Orange Coast Horticulture Department to celebrate the Day of the Dead or Dia de los Muertos. The Orange Coast Horticulture Department is popular for its annual plant sales usually heard each semester.
This is the first time that a marigold sale is being held which is a flower that is native to Mexico. The flower in Mexico is traditionally used to adorn alters honoring deceased family members so the tie in with Day of the Dead which typically occurs in Mexico and, Latin America on November 1st or 2nd makes sense.
The event is free to the general public and the Marigolds are available 6 1/2″ pots for $5 per plant. All proceeds from the sales go towards student scholarships and projects.
